Turning colder from Friday
Becoming windier too

Thursday
Staying mostly cloudy in Scotland with showery rain for northern and western areas. The heaviest rain will be over the Western Isles. Drier for the rest of England, Wales, Ireland and southern Scotland with good spells of sunshine developing after morning mist patches clear from England and Wales. Best of the sun will be in northern and eastern parts of England. Temperatures at 9C in northern Scotland, 14C in southern England.

Thursday Night
As high pressure builds to the west of the British Isles through Thursday night, winds will strengthen and veer to the northwest. It will be a largely cloudy night with the exception of eastern and southern England which will be under clear skies. Showers will continue over Scotland and Northern Ireland and may turn wintry over the Hebrides. Temperatures will drop to 3 to 4C over Scotland and 6 to 9C everywhere else.

Friday
Winds will continue to strengthen and turn more northerly through Friday as high pressure continues to build over the Atlantic. Showers will start to move in from the north affecting much of Scotland and exposed coastal areas across the rest of the UK. These will be wintry in nature over higher ground. Cold air will push southwards across the British Isles limiting temperatures to 6 to 8C in Scotland and 9 to 11C elsewhere, though it will feel much colder in the wind.

Saturday
The British Isles are sandwiched between low pressure over Europe and high pressure over the Atlantic which brings strong northerly winds for all. It will be cold everywhere as Arctic air spreads across the country. Showers around western, northern and eastern coasts, which will fall as sleet and snow on the hills. Elsewhere the day will be dry with sunny spells throughout. Little change during the day. Highs at 6 to 9C but will feel much colder in the wind.
