Rain affecting parts of England and Wales
Drier and brighter for Scotland and Ireland

Thursday
Frontal troughs over England and Wales will move east, with a ridge of high pressure building into Western areas. Rain over England and Wales will start to clear with skies brightening, although wet weather may linger in easternmost counties of England for much of the day. Sunshine and a good deal of dry weather for Scotland and Ireland but western areas will have some showers. Winds light to moderate in strength, locally fresh in the north and west, settling mainly west or northwesterly. Highs 8 to 11C in the north, 11 to 14C in the south.

Thursday Night
Any light coastal showers in the north and west will become confined to the far north of Scotland, so a dry night for most areas with clear spells, although cloud will start to spill eastwards across Ireland later. A cold night with a fairly widespread ground frost or frost, lows 0 to 3C and locally sub-zero, especially in the north and west.

Friday
A ridge of high pressure, extending north across much of the British Isles at first, will transfer east as a deep low tracks northeast from mid-Atlantic, driving frontal troughs into the north and west. Isolated showers at first in the north but a mostly dry start with sunny spells. However, rain moving into the west of Ireland by about lunchtime will spread northeast, reaching Scotland later in the day. Most of England and Wales will remain dry throughout, although with high cloud starting to increase in the west, and some rain or drizzle is likely overnight in some northern and western parts. Winds will strenghten from the south or southwest across northern and western areas with gales developing in exposed locations. Highs 9 to 13C.

Saturday
A deep low to the southwest of Iceland, tracking east-northeast, will drive frontal troughs into Britain and Ireland. Rain or drizzle, some heavy, over Scotland and Ireland will spread slowly east into England and Wales but central and eastern areas will stay mostly dry. Drier weather with just a few drizzly outbreaks in the west follows into Scotland and Ireland. Possible overnight mist or fog for parts of England and Wales. Strong south or southwest winds across northern and western areas, reaching gale, perhaps occasionally severe gale force in exposed locations. Highs 11 to 15C.
