A ridge of high pressure extends across the southern half of Britain. Dry with bright or sunny spells after morning mist and fog patches clear. Cloud and outbreaks of rain in western Scotland and northwest Ireland. Northwest England and Wales should be mainly dry barring an odd patch of light rain developing, fairly cloudy here. Light winds in the south, freshening southwesterly breezes in the northwest. Highs 12 to 15C.

Tuesday night
Central, south and eastern regions of England and Wales stay dry overnight. Some clear skies toward the southeast where local mist patches may form. An increasing southwest breeze in the north and west brings cloud and outbreaks of rain or drizzle, spilling east across Ireland onto western coasts of Britain, and more extensively across Scotland. Heaviest rain over western Scottish hills. Lows 7 to 10C, mildest in the west.

Wednesday
A fresh southwesterly wind and a front pushing into Scotland, northern and western England and Wales, bringing showery periods of rain, some of them heavy. Extensive cloud cover. Patchy rain extends eastwards across the Midlands. Drier with a little sun breaking through toward southeastern England with high pressure nearby. Brighter and drier weather follows across Ireland during the afternoon. Highs 17C in the southeast, 11C in northern Scotland.

Thursday
There is uncertainty in the forecast, but a risk of heavy rain moving in across south and southwestern areas, perhaps more extensive over England and Wales. Possible gales toward southwest coasts. Further north, a drier day is likely with just a few showers for western Scotland and Northern Ireland. A touch of frost at first under clear skies in the north. Highs 12 to 17C.
