Wednesday
A fast moving and active area of low pressure moves eastwards across the northern half of the country on Wednesday. Heavy bursts of rain across Scotland, Wales and much of England with widespread gales or severe gale force winds and gusts. Rain clearing first thing across Ireland and Northern Ireland then through Scotland during the morning with brighter and fresher weather to follow but also blustery showers and gusty winds expected. The furtheast east you are the drier it should be. Highs at 12 to 14C in the north and west, 18C in southeast England, but turning cooler here through the day.

Wednesday Night
Rain clearing the far southeast by evening. Frequent, heavy showers across western Scotland through the night, while longer spells of rain look to push south across Scotland and into northern England by dawn. Drier elsewhere though a few showers affecting western coasts and hills cannot be ruled out. Windy with gale force winds in places across northern England and Scotland. Lows at 7 to 10C.

Thursday
Low pressure north of the country on Thursday with high pressure to the south. A strong westerly wind with a risk of gales in the north and west again. Showers, some heavy over northern and western coasts and hills with longer spells of rain across western and central Scotland. Scattered showers affecting the Midlands. Drier in eastern and southern areas with the best sunshine in the south. Highs at 12C on northwest Scotland, 18C in southeast England.

Friday
A front brings rain through southern Ireland, Wales and much of England on Friday. Drier for southeast England, some bright spells here but cloud increasing in the afternoon. Blustery showers for northern and western Scotland and Northern Ireland, some heavy and frequent. Brighter in eastern areas of Scotland and Ireland, drier here too. Breezy with northern gales. Highs at 11 to 15C in the north and west, 19C in south-eastern areas.
