A bright and breezy day for many places. Sunshine best across central and eastern England, plus areas to the lee of high ground in east Wales and eastern Scotland. A few showers around Irish Sea and English Channel coasts. A showery day overall for western Scotland plus the north-west of Ireland. Frequent heavy bursts of rain with hail and isolated thunder possible. Squally gusts up to gale force in exposed spots and feeling cool. Temperatures 6 to 9C north, up to 10 to 12C south.

Friday night
An area of low pressure to the west of Ireland moves east across the Irish Sea overnight. Rain becoming persistent, heaviest for south-west England and south Wales. Rain developing before dawn for central and eastern England. Risk of gales for English Channel coasts. A few wintry showers for western Scotland, but eastern Scotland will be mainly dry with clear spells and a frost forming. Lows 5 to 8C south, 2 to 4C north, locally cooler east and central Scotland.

Saturday
Low pressure moves swiftly across central England and Wales, bringing a period of rain, tending to break up from the west into clusters of showers. A little sun may come through in the west later. A risk of hill snow for southern Scotland, perhaps the higher tops in the north Pennines. A few showers for western Scotland. Largely dry for east & north-east Scotland. Isolated showers for Ireland, fading. A risk of gales south & eastern Britain for a time. Highs 7 to 13C.

Sunday
Areas of rain will move across the country. Some persistent falls over a few hours, tending to break up into clusters of showers from the west. Snow over the southern Scottish Highlands. An improving picture across England and Wales with sunny spells coming through. Staying unsettled through the day for Scotland and Northern Ireland. Blustery winds. Temperatures ranging from 12 to 14C in the south of England, to just 5 to 8C in Scotland.
