Cold, rain arriving west
Snow to low levels north

Tuesday
A frosty start. Hazy sun becoming confined to eastern regions as high cloud thickens from the west, becoming overcast. Risk of a few showers near eastern coasts. Rain soon spreads across Ireland and into western Scotland early morning, turning readily to snow over the Highlands to low levels. Into the evening, rain and hill snow spreads to Wales & west of England. Light winds, but will freshen in north & west. Cold, highs 4 to 8C.

Tuesday night
An extensive belt of rain and hill snow spreads east across the country during the evening and night. Snow is likely to fall across the Pennines and much of Scotland above 200-300m, perhaps wet snow to lowest levels for a time. Several hours of heavy rain in the Midlands and south, clearing from west during the night. Where skies clear in the west, risk of ice forming. Temperatures 1 to 5C, locally sub-zero by dawn in Scotland.

Wednesday
An area of low pressure centred over south-east England. A slow moving front across eastern Britain brings lingering outbreaks of rain, resulting in a cold day for eastern England. Brightening skies for central & western England & Wales, largely dry for the Midlands. A few showers near western coasts. Patchy rain spreads to western Scotland & N.Ireland later. Blustery winds in south, local gales. Highs 6 to 9C, perhaps 12C south-west.

Thursday
Low pressure toward the east produces a cool north-westerly flow. A mix of sunshine and showers - locally banding together into frequent squally bursts of rain, particularly west & north-western regions, and a few clusters of showers are likely to spread into the Midlands. Driest toward central & eastern Scotland, and much of eastern England. Breezy for all. Highs 6 to 8C north, 9 to 12C south, mildest in south-west.
