Chilly but bright
Heavy rain, snow & gales Saturday night

Saturday
A chilly but bright day for many places. Areas of showers affect coastal districts in the west & south, advancing inland across north-west England - snow over the hills to quite low levels. Some showers may also move inland from the Bristol Channel into the south Midlands. Plenty of sunshine in central & eastern counties. A south-westerly breeze. Cloud thickens from the south-west ahead of rain arriving by evening. Temperatures 4 to 8C.

Saturday night
Heavy rain spreads in quickly from the south-west, extending across the Midlands and Wales, reaching southern parts of Yorks & Lancs - falling as snow across the hills. Southerly winds will strengthen to gale force, gusts over 60mph in exposure around the south coast. Meanwhile, northern Britain & Ireland stay dry with clear skies, and a hard frost, lows -2 to -6C, locally lower Scottish glens. Around 1 to 3C Midlands, or 5 to 8C in south.

Sunday
Low pressure tracks across eastern England into the North Sea. A swathe of heavy rain clears in the morning. Clusters of showers follow across Wales & the Midlands - snow over the hills, perhaps to quite low levels. Brighter skies gradually developing. Gales in the south-east, gusts 60mph near the coast. Mainly fair Scotland & N.Ireland, sunshine and isolated snow showers near coasts. Highs 3 to 7C, locally 10 to 12C far south-east.

Monday
A chilly northerly pattern across the country as one area of low pressure moves away toward Norway, whilst another system threatens to move in from Biscay. Areas of rain or snow for northern Britain, may locally persist for several hours - possible snow to low levels in Scotland. Generally dry in central areas with some hazy sun. Rain is likely to spread into the south, turning heavy. Temperatures just 4 to 7C.
