Cold weather dominates
A cold wintry few days ahead for many areas

Tuesday
A cold day after a widespread frost and some icy patches first thing. Wintry showers are possible around the periphery of the British Isles, but with many inland areas experiencing plenty of dry weather with some sunshine. Frost and sub-zero temperatures soon re-developing across inland areas into Tuesday evening. Highs around 3C to 7C.

Tuesday night
Remaining cold or, more locally, very cold with a widespread frost this locally quite harsh and penetrating given a continued moderate N or NE'ly wind overnight. This will also maintain a risk of wintry showers around areas exposed to the N or NE'ly wind. Minimum temperatures -3C to +1C.

Wednesday
Overall little change into Wednesday as a N or NE'ly wind dominates bringing further wintry showers around some northern, western and eastern areas of the British Isles, with snow possible to increasingly low levels as well. Many inland areas will, however, maintain plenty of dry weather with some sunshine after another morning frost. Highs around 3C to 6C at best.

Wednesday night
The cold or very cold weather will continue into Wednesday night with further widespread frost and Wednesday night could well be the coldest night of the week for most areas. Wintry showers, readily falling as hail and snow away from coastal areas, will continue around the periphery of the British Isles, but many inland regions will remain dry. Minimum temperatures around -4C to +1C.
