Wintry showers in east

Thursday
A cold day across all parts of the UK and Ierland today. There will be frequent showers affecting the eastern coasts and hills of England, some of them heavy. Snow again affecting high ground but also a few snow and hail showers at low levels too. A further area of showers affecting the far southwest of Wales and Cornwall as well as the Isles of Scilly. Brighter conditions is all other areas with good spells of sunshine but feeling cold in the fresh to strong northerly wind. Highs at 2 to 5C.


Thursday Night
Wintry showers continue through the night across eastern England with the risk of further accumulations on hills. Showers to across the far southwest of England and southwest Wales. Drier for other areas with a frost forming, although the winds will be too brisk to allow for a severe frost. Cloudier weather reaching western Ireland later. Lows at -4C in central Scotland, more generally closer to 0 to 3C.


Friday
High pressure will be positioned to the west of Ireland on Friday. A warm front slips south bringing cloudier skies to much of Scotland and Ireland with the risk of some drizzle on the hills. For England and Wales the day should start mostly dry with sunny spells, although showers are still likely to affect eastern coasts. These should fade into the afternoon with bright spells persisting for many, although cloud continues to increase further north. Increasingly murky in Scotland and Ireland. Highs at a chilly 4 to 7C.


Saturday
A warm front passes south on Saturday bringing plenty of cloud to much of the UK and Ireland. There will be a few spots of drizzle, mostly on the hills. More persistent rain affecting the far northwest of Scotland but murky over many western coasts. Highs at 5 to 8C.
