Chilly through weekend
Showery north-west, snow & hail

Friday
A dry and bright day for many places, with a good deal of sunshine. Early rain in the far south-east will soon clear, whilst rain may return to south-west England through the day. Snow and hail showers will affect the north-west of Britain & Ireland, most frequent for western Scotland, with snow accumlating over the mountains. Scattered showers for north-west England. A chilly westerly breeze, strongest in northern areas. Highs 4 to 8C.

Friday night
Showers continue toward the north & west, feeding inland from the coasts. Locally for north-west England and north Wales, showers will band together to give frequent snow and hail, falling and perhaps lying to low levels, and accumulating widely over the hills. Largely dry for central & eastern areas with some clear spells. A zone of rain may graze across southern coastal counties. Lows 0 to 3C, but locally sub-zero in sheltered spots.

Saturday
Brisk west to northwesterly winds will feel cold. Frequent snow and hail showers around western coasts - snow often falling to low levels, and accumulating over the hills. Risk of isolated thunder near the coast. Central & eastern districts will stay dry overall, with just rare brief showers and good spells of sunshine. Rain may graze the far south-east early morning as fronts move across France. Highs 4 to 7C, but feeling sub-zero.

Sunday
A chilly day again, although winds may ease a little. Showers will feed inland from western coasts, but these tending to fade as a brief ridge of high pressure builds from the west. Snow over the hills, and possible hail. Largely dry in central and south-eastern Britain with good amounts of sunshine. Rain develops for the north-west by evening, becoming widespread into Monday. Temperatures 4 to 8C, which may lift slightly into the night.
