Sunny spells for England & Wales - largely dry central & southern areas, but expect showers north & west. Small risk of rain clipping the far south-east. Frequent showery rain in Scotland & Northern Ireland, becoming increasingly widespread and persistent. Cool at 15 to 18C north & west, up to 20 to 23C Midlands & south-east.

Wednesday night
Bursts of showery rain continue for northern Britain, some persistent falls. Areas of showers likely to persist into early Thursday for southern Scotland, north-west England & west Wales. For central & southern Britain, it will be generally dry overnight, with broken cloud. Blustery south-westerly winds continue, particularly exposed coastal areas. Temperatures ranging from 10 to 14C, locally 7C or cooler in clear spots in Scottish Highlands.

Thursday
Low pressure to the north-east of Britain brings an unsettled day. Areas of showery rain spreading from west to east, at times rain persistent over an hour or more. Heavy bursts advancing increasingly into central-eastern regions by afternoon. Mostly cloudy, occasional glimpses of sun, best in east early morning. Blustery south-westerly winds, turning northerly in Scotland. Temperatures 18 to 22C, but cooler where rain lingers.

Friday
A ridge of high pressure builds from the south-west. Dry with a good amount of sunshine for most places, particularly coastal areas. A few showers are possible in eastern areas of Scotland & England, mostly afternoon. High cloud may thicken across Ireland as fronts approach from the west, perhaps giving a little rain later. A west to south-westerly breeze. Top temperatures 18 to 21C north & west, up to 23C south & east.
