Patchier rain in central and southern England. Drier in central and northern parts of Scotland and chilly here too. Rain passes east this afternoon, heavy bursts of rain in places. Drier weather follows across Ireland, reaching central and western parts of England and Wales as the afternoon progresses. Remaining dry in northern Scotland. Highs at 4C in northern Scotland, 13C in southern England.

Wednesday Night
Rain clears from the eastern UK this evening. Drier conditions then follow with lighter winds. A few mist or fog patches forming in more rural areas. By the early hours increasing wind, cloud and rain will be arriving in Ireland and southwest England as well as south Wales. This rain then edges north and east through the night with heavy periods of rain in Ireland and western Wales. Drier for Scotland with a slight frost in sheltered areas. Lows at 1C in central Scotland, 6 to 9C in the rest of the UK and Ireland.

Thursday
Low pressure remains in control on Thursday. A strong west to southwest wind pushes fronts eastwards taking cloud and rain with them. Most rain over western coasts and hills where there will be mist and fog too. The afternoon sees most rain in southern Ireland and the far south of Wales and southern England. Rather cloudy elsewhere and staying mild. Highs at 8C in northern Scotland, 14C in southern England.

Friday
A deepening area of low pressure passes close to western Scotland on Friday. This brings severe gales with gusts of 70mph in Scotland. Rain, heavy for some will be passing east with all areas becoming windy. Sunshine and heavy showers i the afternoon on Friday together with gales being widespread. The strongest winds again in Scotland, Northern Ireland and northern England with gusts of 70mph here. Rain turning increasingly to sleet and snow over the Scottish mountains. Highs at 8 to 11C.
