Wet & windy on Monday
Feeling cold on Tuesday

Sunday
A large area of high pressure is centred to the southwest of England on Sunday. A weak front over central England and Wales brings low cloud and a murky day here, some drizzle over the hills too. There could still be a fair amount of cloud in northern England and Scotland as well as Northern Ireland, but this should break to allow some brighter spells to develop. Highs at 8C in southern England, 10C in the south of Ireland and 4C in northern Scotland.

Sunday Night
A front brings increasing cloud and strengthening wind through Ireland and Scotland ahead of a band of heavy rain. The rain will reach northwestern fringes of Northern Ireland and Scotland and the Northern Isles by the early morning. Winds gusting to gale force over the northern half of the country by this time too. Overnight low temperatures largely staying above freezing: falling to 1C in northern Scotland, 3C in southeast England and 8 or 9C across Ireland.

Monday
High pressure is to the south of the UK and Ireland again on Monday. Morning mist and fog patches in southern areas lifting to leave a dry morning with broken cloud and some bright or sunny spells. Increased winds bringing some patchy rain to western Scotland and western Ireland through the early hours of the morning, this turning heavier throughout the morning as an area of gales affects Northern Ireland and most of Scotland. Rain turning to wintry showers in northwest Scotland where the strongest winds will be towards late afternoon and evening. Rain too in northern England and passing through Ireland, most of this patchy. Best of the sunshine in southern and southeastern England. Highs at 6 to 11C.

Tuesday
The area of low pressure passes into southern Norway on Tuesday as high pressure builds west of Ireland. This brings a strong and cold north to northwest flow across all parts of the country. Wintry showers in northern and eastern Scotland, with some affecting eastern coasts of England too. Tending to be brighter and drier to the west and south. A significant wind chill-developing. High temperatures at 5 to 8C.
