Unsettled
Cold/Mild divide

Monday
A widespread frost across Scotland, northern and central England and Wales is expected on Monday morning. Much milder in the far south and southwest. High pressure will bring largely dry conditions to much of the country although wintry showers will affect some northern and eastern parts of Scotland. Meanwhile, a fast moving area of low pressure will track across the southwest of England bringing rain here as well as to southern Ireland and parts of Wales, snow to higher ground, in the morning, clearing by early afternoon. The next Atlantic low pressure and associated front makes headway across Ireland with rain reaching southwest England by the end of the day. Highs at 2 to 6C for most, 8 to 10C for southwestern England and Ireland.

Monday Night
Overnight, heavy spells of rain, falling as sleet and snow initially and over higher ground, will push across much of the country by early morning. Snow fall could be extensive across the higher ground, in particular across Wales, central and northern England and Northern Ireland. Clear skies will remain across northern and central Scotland through the night allowing for a widespread and hard frost to develop here. Rain, sleet and snow as well as cloud will push in to southern Scottish areas by morning. Lows between 0 and -10C across Scotland, 1 to -2C across northern and central England and north Wales. Lows between 3C and 9C further south and west.

Tuesday
Low pressure west of Ireland will bring an unsettled day for many on Tuesday. Heavy rain, sleet and snow is all expected, with possible extensive snow across northern parts of England and southern and central Scotland. Strengthening winds are also a factor. The far north of Scotland is still looking like it will remain dry throughout the day but easterly winds will increase. Highs at 2 to 6C in the north and a milder 7 to 12C in the south and west.

Wednesday
Low pressure west of Ireland staying put on Wednesday and it will bring rain, sleet and snow to Northern Ireland, central and southern Scotland as well as northern England through the morning but conditions should improve across northern Ireland and northern parts of England. A separate area of low pressure develops as it tracks eastwards through the English Channel bringing rain, heavy and persistent at times, to southern areas of Britain, including south Wales. Low confidence currently on how far north the rain will affect. Dry elsewhere. Highs at 2 to 5C across Scotland and Northern England, highs between 6 to 11C elsewhere.
