Unsettled across many areas
Wet and windy at times

Sunday
Very unsettled start to New Year's Eve especially across northern areas with overnight gales and heavy rain across Scotland and N England slowly clearing away into the N Sea. Wet weather across S England first thing will clear away to the east as well and then many areas turning cooler, if not colder, from the west through the day with sunshine and blustery showers. Highs 4C to 9C.

Sunday Night
Remaining showery into New Year's Eve night across many areas, perhaps with some longer spells of rain across more northern and western areas in particular. Precipitation may well be wintry on higher ground in the north at times with possible frost or local icy patches in Scotland, less-cold elsewhere. Lows -1C to 5C.

Monday
Into New Year's Day and low pressure will continue to dominate the weather across the British Isles with longer spells of rain perhaps running eastwards across southern areas of England, while showers and longer spells of rain affect more northern and western areas at times too, perhaps wintry on higher ground in particular in Scotland. A chilly day, highs 3C to 8C.

Tuesday
Turning wet and windy from the west through the day after a mainly dry start, perhaps with some frost in the north and east too. Wet and windy weather will, however, move north and east through the day perhaps with some temporary sleet and snow on northern hills. Highs 4C to 11C, highest in the south-west later in the day.
