Staying cold
Dry for many

Monday
Separate low pressure centres to the east and west puts the UK and Ireland in a narrow ridge of higher pressure on Monday. A mostly dry and bright day for the British Isles though rain and cloud could persist to the southeast through the morning. A few showers too for North Sea coasts where it will be breezy too. Cloud builds from the west later. Chilly with high temperatures at just 3 to 8C.

Monday Night
Cloud continues to build from the west through the night bringing outbreaks of rain across the western half of Ireland. Showers developing for Irish Sea coasts and persisting for North Sea coasts too. Clear skies over much of England and Scotland allow a widespread groundfrost and mist and fog patches to develop. Overnight lows at -2 to 1C across England, Scotland and Wales; 3 to 6C across Ireland and Northern Ireland.

Tuesday
Low pressure to the west of Ireland sends fronts across Ireland and into southern and western parts of the UK bringing cloud and outbreaks of rain. The most persistent rain for Ireland but heavy spells of rain too for Wales and southwestern England. Staying dry but increasingly cloudy across the rest of England and much of Scotland. Plenty of mist around too. Brighter conditions follow for Ireland later. Highs at 3 to 9C.

Wednesday
Pressure stays low to the west on Wednesday and is likely to be centred just southwest of Ireland. This brings further periods of rain, some of it heavy, to southern and western areas. Drier to the north and east with just occasional showers here. Windy too to the south and west with highs ranging from 3 to 9C.
