Rain north-west
A bright weekend south

Friday
A front brings persistent rain to Northern Ireland & western Scotland. Local showers developing in northern Scotland. Cloudy with patchy rain or drizzle for Wales & north-west England. Breezy in the north & west. Central & south-eastern Britain stays largely dry with sunny spells, light winds and coastal sea breezes. Highs 16 to 19C north & west, up to 22 to 24C Midlands & East Anglia, locally topping 25C in the London area.

Friday night
Outbreaks of rain continue to affect Scotland and parts of northern England overnight, but tends to fade to patchy drizzle for Northern Ireland. Dry for much of central and southern England and Wales, with cloud breaking at times to give some clear spells inland. Winds fairly light away from coasts. Local mist patches before dawn. Lows 10 to 15C, mildest in eastern England, but may dip to 8 or 9C in rural parts of the north & west.

Saturday
Slow-moving showers for Scotland and northern England, tending to drift eastwards into the afternoon - a risk of local thundery downpours over the eastern Grampian region, Borders and north-east England. Showers generally light and well scattered elsewhere, and central-southern Britain should stay dry most or all day. Sunshine breaking through, most widely near coasts in the south. Winds fairly light. Highs 17 to 22C, or 24C south-east.

Sunday
High pressure across southern Britain brings a fair day to much of England & Wales. Good spells of sunshine, best around coasts in the afternoon. A few drizzly showers possible in the north-west. Fronts spreading from the Atlantic bring a risk of patchy rain for Northern Ireland and western Scotland, although areas east of the Highlands should stay dry. A freshening south-westerly breeze. Highs 17 to 25C, warmest south-east.
