A milder westerly pattern influences the country. A warm front passes eastwards, leaving a mild and damp air mass in place. Cloudy skies and generally dull, particularly in western areas. Patchy light rain or drizzle, most persistent over western hills. Fairly breezy, strongest winds near coasts in the west. A little sun may break through at times in the south and east. Temperatures 8 to 11C for many, although northern Scotland stays nearer 4 to 6C.

Friday night
Most places will be frost free as cloudy skies prevail across the country. Rain or drizzle continues in the north and west. Most persistent rain affects western Scotland, with snow on the mountains. It is likely to turn wetter for northern England too. Largely dry for the south and east of England. Drizzly and damp with hill fog for Wales and south-west England. A west to southwesterly breeze, strongest near coasts. Lows 5 to 7C, locally nearer 0C in Highland Scotland.

Saturday
Low pressure developing to the north-west moves over the British Isles through the day. A mild, cloudy day with patchy drizzly rain for England. Driest and brightest toward the east. A cold front moves across Ireland and into Wales and Scotland from the west, with persistent heavy rain setting in, becoming snow over the mountains. Brisk winds, strengthening to gale force around western coasts. Temperatures up to 8 to 11C, but will drop sharply into the night for most places.

Sunday
Low pressure moves eastwards across Britain, ushering in a bitter northerly wind. A risk of gales, particularly around coasts and hills. Clusters of showers, some heavy bursts with isolated thunder near western coasts - a mix of rain, hail and some snow, chiefly over hills, but increasingly falling to lower levels. Areas exposed to the northerly wind will see most frequent precipitation. Some sunshine, mostly down the spine of the country. Highs 4 to 7C, but feeling sub-zero.
