Saturday
A deep area of low pressure moves in from the north-west through the day. A mild, cloudy day with patchy drizzly rain for England. Driest and brightest toward the east. A cold front moves across Ireland and into Wales by afternoon, with persistent heavy rain setting in. Scotland will be wet much of the day, with snow over the mountains. Brisk winds, up to gale force around western coasts. Temperatures up to 10 or 11C for England & Wales, 6 to 9C for Scotland & Ireland.

Saturday night
Low pressure moves eastwards, and a cold front sweeps through across England, bringing a period of rain to most places, heavy at times. Clusters of showers follow, in places merging to give several more hours of rain, or increasingly snow over higher ground of Wales and northern England. Persistent snow for northern Scotland, with blizzards in the Highlands. Windy for all, gales or severe gales in the west, north and south-west. Lows 0 to 5C, coldest northern Scotland.

Sunday
Low pressure centred to the east. A strong and bitter northerly wind - gales or local severe gales around many coasts and hills. Clusters of showers, some heavy bursts - a mix of rain, hail and some snow, chiefly over hills, but increasingly falling to lower levels. Chance of isolated thunder. Areas exposed to the northerly wind will see most frequent precipitation. Some sunshine, improving from the west through the day. Highs 4 to 7C, but feeling sub-zero in the wind.

Monday
A northwesterly wind maintains a chilly pattern. A risk of widespread frost and ice in the morning. Brisk winds near North Sea coasts, where large waves may result in coastal flooding and damage to seafronts. Areas of wintry showers around coasts in the east and west, mostly rain at low levels near coasts. Some more organised rain returns to western Scotland and Northern Ireland later, with snow over the Highlands. Highs 3 to 7C, mildest in the far south-west.
