Mild, grey and damp
Some sunshine

Sunday
High pressure lies to the south, keeping many places dry and dull with extensive low cloud across west and central regions. Some rain and drizzle in the north-west as weak troughs drift in from the Atlantic. The best of any sunshine is likely in the east and south. Breezy in the north and northwest. Light winds in the south, with some low level fog possible. Generally mild, 8 to 10C north, 11 to 13C south.

Sunday night
Staying mild and damp with a lot of low cloud. A little drizzly rain will affect western Scotland, and a patchy drizzle may affect western coasts and hills elsewhere. Some clearer breaks in the east. A light west to southwesterly breeze, strongest in the north-west. Lowest temperatures 5 to 8C, or milder around southern coasts.

New Year's Eve
High pressure is centred over southern England maintaining a mild, moist southwest to westerly airflow over the British Isles. It will be a rather overcast and murky day with some fog around though some sunshine will break through for the northeast of Scotland and southern and eastern parts of England. Some patchy light rain or drizzle for northwestern Scotland. Breezy for Scotland. Highs 7 to 11C.

New Year's Day
High pressure stays in control. Variable cloud, some mist and fog patches. A weakening front slipping south across Scotland into northern England brings a zone of cloud and patchy rain or drizzle. A few showers for the Northern Isles. The best of any sunshine will be for southern England, perhaps also the far north of Scotland. Winds light west to northwesterly. Fairly mild at 7 to 11C.
