Humid southerly air continues to waft across Britain. A zone of rain over Scotland and northeast England in the morning will drift northwards, but leaves a legacy of showers. Clusters of heavy and thundery bursts forming and spreading northwards across central, north and eastern England. Showery rain in the southwest turns heavier again later. Drier and brighter for north Wales, northwest England and Northern Ireland. Also becoming brighter for western Scotland. Highs at 20 to 26C.

Monday night
Areas of heavy rain spread northeastwards across Britain overnight, most sustained over windward coasts and hills exposed to south-southeasterly winds - strongest in the southwest. East and southern Scotland in particular will see prolonged heavy rain. Becoming drier across England and Wales toward dawn, although expect some showers locally in the south. Some mist patches forming following rain. Heavy rain for southern Ireland, drier toward Northern Ireland. Mild, lows 11 to 16C.

Tuesday
Low pressure still circulating to the southwest of Ireland keeps things changeable. Sunny spells and showery rain through the morning, then heavier, more persistent rain expected to develop from the southwest across England and Wales. A swathe of heavy rain over northern England early morning pushes north across Scotland through the day. Eastern England may escape largely dry with hazy sun. Brisk southerly winds. Highs 19 to 25C, warmest in the east, though cooler across some western areas.

Wednesday
Low pressure centred over Ireland maintains unsettled weather through midweek with outbreaks of heavy rain, perhaps thundery, most frequent in southwestern areas, but extending northeastwards across much of England and Wales, although East Anglia may escape drier for longer. Heavy rain also affects eastern Scotland with onshore winds from the North Sea. Drier in western Scotland. A breezy day for most and windy towards SW England and Wales. Highs at 18 to 24C, warmest in eastern England.
