A cold front drifting southwards brings cloud and some rain to central and southern England and Wales in the morning, tending to fizzle out, but may leave patchy rain toward the southeast into the afternoon. Sunnier skies over northern England will extend slowly southwards. Brisk southwesterly winds for Scotland and Northern Ireland pull a few showers into western areas. Bright and dry toward the east. Highs 6 to 10C, mildest in the far south of England.

Tuesday night
Dry for many places as high pressure expands across Britain and Ireland. Light winds and clear skies for many, but some areas of mist and fog forming in low lying areas and valleys. Broken cloud toward the far southeast. Staying breezy across Scotland, with cloud across western areas producing patchy drizzly rain toward the northwest. Dipping close to freezing in many inland rural areas with a touch of frost, 2 to 4C in towns. Milder near coasts, 7 to 9C western Scotland.

Wednesday
High pressure over southern areas Britain and Ireland brings fair weather. There will be some mist and fog patches, these slow to clear in places. Plenty of cloud is possible with some drizzle on northwestern hills. Bright spells toward the east of high ground. Breezy in Scotland. Highs 5 to 8C, coolest if in fog, milder further north and west with highs up to 10 or 11C in northwest Scotland.

Thursday
High pressure stays to the south. Breezy with some drizzle in north and west Scotland. Dry for most other areas with a fair amount of cloud. The best of any brightness in northeast England. Some mist and fog in southern and central England and Wales. Highs at 9C in any sunshine, more generally 5 to 7C but locally up to 9 or 10C in northern Scotland under mild southwesterly winds here.
